Really interesting discussions last week at the kick-off event of the #HorizionEurope CircSyst project in Valencia 🌞. The VITO WaterClimateHub team is looking forward to work on smart buffering, wetland treatment of RO concentrates and improved membrane filtration with our partners Flemish Aquafin (Koen Rummens) and Aquaduin (Emmanuel van Houtte, Jonas Van Eeghem). We also look forward to carry out #LCA and to work with our partners Framtidens samhällsbyggnad på RISE, AIDIMME. Technology Institute, RRA-podravje, Kmetijski inštitut Slovenije on industrial and agricultural water reuse demos in Sweden, Slovenia and Spain. Thanks to the coordinator AIJU Instituto Tecnológico de Producto Infantil y Ocio for organizing the meeting.Campling Paul

Have you ever seen the world from inside a water drop 💧? I have...as Karen Vanderstraeten and I explained water use and the virtual water demand of the average Flemish person to a general public at the Ostend at Anchor VZW event. It was really great fun! Thanks to the VITO WaterClimateHub for making this possible and Emilia Liégeois for a great streaming of the slides.

Great progress and discussion yesterday at Aquaduin for the brand new upcoming HEU CircSyst project. In this project the VITO WaterClimateHub, Aquaduin and Aquafin are working together to treat #concentrates from reverse osmosis in a #wetland, increase #water #circularity through direct nano filtration and develop smart buffering systems for water savings and operational efficiencies. Thanks to Jonas Van Eeghem, Emmanuel Van Houtte, Stefan Kroll, Bastiaan Notebaert, Dores Cirne, Catarina Baptista, Sofie Van Den Hende and Paul Campling.

VITO WaterClimateHub and students from Department of Bioscience Engineering - University of Antwerp had an insightful visit to a urine source separating pig stable #engineered by Vermeulen Construct https://lnkd.in/exitVAh7. A key innovation on the way to reducing #ammonia emission to air, improving animal and human #health, increasing #biogas yields and #recovering #nitrogen and #phosphorus. Many, many thanks to Geert Vermeulen for hosting us and to Inagro vzw, specifically Greet Ghekiere and Lisa Dejonghe, for making this possible ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ . Wow, I saw the plans and had this explained to me by katrien van hooydonk...this will be an event like no other, really interactive with hands on container visits, short dates at booth, intense high paced discussion and (who knows) some surprise activity. See you all there. #water #sustainability #bluedeal

🌱🔄 Go beyond circularity!📢 Our latest paper doesn't just examine circularity in agri-food systems; it pioneers a fresh perspective by exploring the intricate relationship between circularity, efficiency, and sufficiency through a quantitative and qualitative lens.📝 Titled "Beyond circularity! Integration of circularity, efficiency, and sufficiency for nutrient management in agri-food systems", this collaborative effort between myself and Ruben Vingerhoets, Siegfried Vlaeminck, Florian Wichern & Anastasia Papangelou reveals insights that seek to challenge the way we think about circularity in the context of sustainable agri-food systems. 💡💚 So, let's move beyond the focus on circularity and create a new integrated concept that see circularity as only one strategy to realize #sustainableagriculture ! #CircularEconomy #Nitrogen #phosphorus #Research #Innovation #Sustainability #AgriFoodSystems 🌿🔄 access here:https://lnkd.in/emEKK7sQ OR here: https://lnkd.in/etKKRD3g

I am happy to have started my new job at the VITO WaterClimateHub. In this new team we aim to create innovation to address societal challenges related to water and climate. Think of issues around #waterresource, #digitalwater, #waterpollution, #circulareconomy and #watertechnolgy. I am also very happy to remain part time at the Department of Bioscience Engineering - University of Antwerp in the group of Siegfried Vlaeminck. In this way, maximizing the cross fertilization between fundamental and applied science.
